  1. FileBack PC 3.2 Beta - November 3, 1998 Release
  2. ===============================================
  3. Thank you for your recent purchase or taking the time
  4. to evaluate FileBack PC.  You have selected one of the 
  5. premiere file backup software utilities available for 
  6. Windows 95 and NT.
  7.  
  8. Installation Instructions
  9. =========================
  10. After unzipping the FileBack.zip archive, locate the
  11. SETUP.EXE program file and double-click to start it.
  12. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the
  13. FileBack PC program file.  If you have a previous
  14. version of FileBack PC installed on your computer
  15. you should install the new copy in the same location
  16. as the old copy.

  18. Note: You must close any previous version of FileBack PC
  19. before attempting to copy the new program file.
  20.  
  21. Automatic Startup
  22. =================
  23. Previous versions of FileBack PC were set to auto-load at
  24. Windows startup by default.  With this installation, this
  25. has changed; in order to set FileBack PC to auto-load,
  26. navigate to the "Options" page and select one of the "Load 
  27. at Windows Startup" options.

  29. If you later decide to uninstall FileBack PC, you will need
  30. to turn these options off before uninstalling the software
  31. to prevent an error at Windows startup afterward. 
  32. (Unfortunately, the uninstallation software being used does
  33. not take care of this situation.)

  35. A note on beta products
  36. =======================
  37. This release of FileBack PC is in beta status.  This means
  38. that it has not yet been tested thoroughly and may still
  39. contain bugs.  Maximum Output Software disclains all
  40. responsibility from damage caused by this product.

  42. If you encounter what you believe to be a bug, please
  43. send a thorough description to Maximum Output Software
  44. at mos-bugs@inconnect.com.  We will do our best to
  45. rectify the situation.

  47. Note other note regarding beta status: the help file for
  48. the beta version has not been completed.  Rather than
  49. not supply a help file, the help file for version 3.1b
  50. is included.

  52. For users of the trial version
  53. ==============================
  54. The trial version of FileBack PC includes all of the
  55. functionality of the registered network enabled version.
  56. The only difference between the trial version and a
  57. registered network version is the limit of two backup
  58. entries in the trial version.

  60. If FileBack is registered as a standalone version the
  61. network functionality will be disabled.  This will
  62. prevent backups from being processed to or from network 
  63. drives, and will disable the network connection restoration
  64. features as well.
  65.  
  66. For users of Version 3.0x
  67. =========================
  68. With this version the registration code format has changed.
  69. Though old registration codes will not work with this version,
  70. if you install version 3.1 over the top of a previous
  71. version the registration information will be updated for
  72. you.

  74. If you were issued a registration code for version 3.0
  75. (these codes were 26 alphabetic characters) and do not have
  76. a copy of your "FileBack Registration.dat" file, please
  77. contact Maximum Output Software.  Please provide the
  78. original name to which the software was registered, and
  79. the approximate date of registration so we can provide
  80. you with a newer registration code.

  82. We highly recommend that you make a backup copy of your
  83. registration file, "FileBack Registration.dat," which is
  84. located in the FileBack PC program directory.  If you
  85. ever need to reinstall FileBack PC you will need this
  86. file or your registration later.

  88. For users of all previous versions
  89. ==================================
  90. The configuration file format has changed with this version.
  91. If you are considering going back to a previous version we
  92. highly recommend making a backup of the FileBack.FBCfg
  93. file before running the newer version.

  97. Doug Johnson, the author of FileBack, has been 
  98. developing FileBack in his spare time.  He also holds 
  99. a full time job which prevents him from accepting any 
  100. telephone calls for supporting FileBack.  However, he

  103. two days.  If you are having difficulties with FileBack, 
  104. send an e-mail message describing your computer 
  105. configuration and any problem(s) you are having in detail.

  118. The standalone version will allow any non-network drive to 
  119. be used as a FileBack source or destination.  The network 
  120. enabled version adds the ability to access network drives,
  121. and supports automatic network drive mapping.  For a 
  122. home environment the standalone version should meet all 
  123. needs.  We recommend that businesses register the network
  124. version.
